Wildlife rehabilitators will not come to your house to solve your raccoon conflict for you. However, they can be a good source of advice for solving a raccoon problem. If your raccoon problem was not addressed in my how-to guide, perhaps a local rehabber will have an answer for you. In addition, if you do need to hire local help, it's possible that a local rehabber knows the name of a professional who is ethical and humane. Of course, a rehabber is the best resource if you have found a lost baby raccoon, or an injured raccoon. Call one of the above rehabbers for instructions. This is not a complete list of all rehabbers in Dallas TX, but they are active and helpful.

It's true that many visitors to this website need outside help. While many raccoon problems can be solved with simple preventative care (read my raccoon prevention page), in some more complex cases, a professional wildlife operator will be better equipped to handle the problem - both in terms of the proper tools, and the knowledge and experience to do it correctly. But it is very important that you hire the right company! They are not all the same. Never hire a pest control company that uses poisons to address the problem. Your state wildlife commission, (or fish & game commission), can be a good resource when dealing with a raccoon problem. They will not come to your house to perform services, but they can answer questions about state wildlife laws, and potentially give advice. They will not dispatch a wildlife officer to deal with a raccoon issue, but they may be able to suggest some names of registered companies that can. Be aware that the state of Texas is concerned only with the laws, and not with humane treatment of raccoons. Many states such as Texas mandate the killing of a raccoon removed from a property for any reason.

The local Dallas animal control services, or Dallas County animal services will not assist with wild animal problems. They deal only with domestic animals - dogs and cats. This includes services such as pet adoptions, vaccinations, complaints about dangerous dogs or pet cruelty, etc. They are a very good resource for domestic animals. However, most will do nothing about wildlife. In rare cases an officer might loan out a trap (usually meant for feral cats), and then kill a raccoon if caught. They may be able to recommend a local trapper, but will not screen for ethical or humane treatment of wildlife. You could also call the local Dallas police station at (770) 443-8100 for raccoon help if you want.
